Stewardship
Our Environmental Stewardship
The Palos Verdes/South Bay Audubon Society has a storied history of local stewardship, including our long time, integral role in local wildlife surveys, and our annual CBC and Butterfly Counts. We also help provide funds for the rainforest-saving initiative in Panama, called ADOPTA, and provide support for young aspiring environmentalists through our YES! program. All are welcome to submit volunteer event proposals at info@pvsbaudubon.org (no formalities needed).
ADOPTA Panama Rainforest promotes conservation and sustainable use of forests. Learn more about the organization and how we lend support.
Similar to the Christmas Bird Count, volunteers count all butterflies seen in our designated PV/South Bay “circle”.
Help us identify and monitor the population size of our local dragonflies in a once-yearly event similar in structure to the CBC and Butterfly counts.
Rooted in a 100-year-old, nationwide tradition, our annual Christmas Bird Count contributes valuable wild bird data to the Christmas Bird Census.
The Audubon YES! Program awards and aids in youth-led environmental projects. Ideal to bolster college and scholarship applications.
Our Birdathon fundraiser is a 24-hour, collaborative bird watching race, where board members and volunteers document as many species as possible.
