Youth Environmental Stewards (YES) Program
Say “YES” to Developing Tomorrow’s Conservation Leaders!
Our YES program connects students with local environmental stewardship opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills, and leadership abilities. There are many ways by which students may. engage in stewardship and they will have the chance to become
acquainted with our Audubon chapter’s leaders as well as those of other local conservation organizations.

While doing so, they earn community service hours which may be used to support school or scouting awards as well as college applications. After 50 hours of service, they will be presented with Palos Verdes/South Bay Audubon’s YES Award in recognition of their dedicated efforts.
Some example stewardship activities are listed below, but any effort which benefits the environment, helps another conservation organization, or teaches others about how to help our environment is eligible.
- Participate in our wildlife surveys throughout the year
- Assist with our monthly public bird walks
- Help to restore native habitat
- Join us in sharing Audubon with others during community events
- Contribute to our newsletter with your poetry, photography, or tips
about birds and conservation - Lead a workshop or presentation to teach others how to use apps like
eBird, Merlin, iNaturalist, etc. or bird-related topics like feeding or nest
boxes - Contribute your technical skills to setting up the audio-visual equipment
at our monthly meetings or editing meeting videos - Volunteer with other local conservation organizations
