Learn about the California Breeding Bird Atlas with Chapter President Ann Dalkey
Recently, Ann learned about the California Breeding Bird Atlas starting January 1, 2026 and continuing through December 31, 2030. Yes, the program has started, but there’s still plenty of work available!
Many states have conducted breeding bird surveys, but California has yet to conduct one. Some of California’s Counties have conducted breeding bird surveys, including Los Angeles County. But one thing that can be counted upon is that nature continually changes. Therefore, it is important to conduct a thorough count for the entire state. This program will feature this newest effort to census the breeding birds in our state. Since we have such varied habitats, we know that different birds breed throughout the year.
This presentation will describe how the breeding bird survey will be conducted, included with discussion on archiving the data.
