Birdathon

2025 Birdathon

The results of the 2025 Birdathon are in. We found 124 species–migrant birds, resident birds and a few either rare or away from their normal haunts! Our team this year consisted of Tracy Drake, Keith Haney, Randy Harwood, Vincent Lloyd, Evi Meyer, Kim Moore, Bob Shanman and Jess Morton. Keith, our chapter’s Project Manager, gathered our observations together in eBird, making our data part of its international database for birds.

About Birdathon

Each year the Palos Verdes/South Bay Audubon sponsors an event to raise funds for our ongoing projects. We call this fundraising event The Birdathon. Usually we do this event in late April.

The event is basically several Board members and volunteers traveling around the South Bay and Palos Verdes Peninsula counting and documenting how many species of birds that can be recorded in a 24-hour period, and, most importantly, raise money for Audubon.

The number of bird sightings can run anywhere from 65 with only one or two people out looking, or up to 135 species on a “birdy” day when our bird count has lots of helpers.

Donations are made directly using the Donate button below or through pledges made on a per species basis. With checks mailed in based on how well we did in counting and documenting the bird species during the bird count.
